Key Points

  • Andorra launches Relleu Empresa platform at relleuempresa.ad to connect business owners with successors.
  • Targets profitable family-run firms at risk from uninterested heirs and changing consumer habits.
  • Already lists two businesses: one for generational handover, one for retirement.
  • Aims to prevent closures, save jobs, and sustain local economy amid franchise growth.

Andorra's seven parishes, Andorra Business, and the Chamber of Commerce have launched the Relleu Empresa digital platform, now fully operational at relleuempresa.ad, to connect business owners seeking successors with entrepreneurs and prevent the closure of viable operations.

The initiative, presented Tuesday during a press conference in Andorra la Vella, stems from a local commercial diagnosis under the "El comerç és capital" project. It identifies longstanding, profitable firms—especially family-run ones—at risk due to heirs uninterested in continuing amid shifting consumer habits. Sergi González, first syndic of Andorra la Vella, highlighted merchants' concerns that their children reject taking over, despite ongoing profitability. "It's a small seed from Andorra la Vella that has grown into collaborative work with a national vision," he said, noting its expansion after syndics' discussions in Ordino gained support from all parishes.

The platform already features two real listings: one for generational handover and another due to retirement. Owners can submit structured offers detailing sectors and conditions for easy comparison, while entrepreneurs access established businesses without starting from zero. Sol Rossell, Chamber of Commerce director, stressed its secure, professional framework. "We ensure a structured, orderly process with security," she said, praising the rare institutional unity.

Judith Hidalgo, Andorra Business director, underscored the employment stakes: each preserved firm means jobs saved and residents retained. She addressed owner hesitations, noting the simple form allows control over public details for confidentiality—more shared information widens buyer access. Any business nationwide can join, regardless of street-level premises.

No data exists on businesses in transfer, but Andorra la Vella alone counts 5,218 firms. González pointed to first-quarter 2026 trends: rising new registrations and revived vacant spaces like Avinguda Príncep Benlloch, reflecting commercial vitality and the need to sustain unique local trade against franchise growth.

Starting as a pilot, organizers see high potential to foster private-sector trust and economic continuity, though volumes remain unpredictable without prior precedents.
