The association Argentinos en Andorra has reported about 15 recent cases of labor deception tied to so‑called "trial" jobs for the Puríssima holiday. Employers allegedly offer work during the busy holiday weekend, promising to formalize contracts afterward, but many workers find the promises are not kept.
The association is running an information campaign to warn people not to accept these short‑term "trial" offers. Many of those targeted are recent arrivals from Latin America or people seeking stable income after a period of unemployment; their economic vulnerability makes the offers appear attractive despite the lack of guarantees.
According to association president Marcelo Ponce, workers are lured by the idea that contracts will be formalized once the trial dates pass, but instead many end up working without any contract or legal protections. Ponce says the group is trying to teach people about their rights so they do not fall into this trap.
The cases reported so far are concentrated mainly in the cleaning and restaurant sectors. Beyond the roughly 15 documented incidents, the association is aware of other people who were offered such arrangements and declined once they realized the employers’ intentions.
Argentinos en Andorra is also providing assistance to those who say they have been abused in these situations and continues outreach to alert the community about the tactic and how to avoid it.
