Andorra's musicians are poised to gain social security coverage for one-off performances through an initiative by the Associació de Músics d’Andorra (ASMA), led by president Joan Gómez.

The association is seeking formal registration with the government's associations registry, which would enable it to act as a legal and fiscal intermediary between musicians and hirers. This move addresses a long-standing gap, allowing performers to contribute to the CASS social security system without registering as self-employed—a step often financially unviable for sporadic gigs.

Under the proposed model, a musician booked for a short event, such as a concert at the Escaldes parish festival organised by the local comú, would temporarily become an ASMA employee for the duration. The association would handle CASS registration, issue the invoice to the client, and ensure contributions are made. This would classify any work-related incidents, like injuries during the performance, as workplace accidents covered by social security.

Musicians would need to contact ASMA in advance via channels including a WhatsApp group covering most local performers. Hirers would also be informed of the option to promote uptake.

The plan predates full implementation of the Artist Statute, proposed by the Culture Ministry in 2023 and still under development. It mirrors practices by groups like ERA Arts Escèniques.

Government officials have welcomed the effort. Joan-Marc Joval, head of Cultural Action, described it as "very positive" that cultural entities are organising themselves, noting its simplicity alongside ongoing Statute revisions. Once registered, ASMA could operate as a legal entity to insure musicians, with government support.

Gómez, who took over ASMA leadership in 2023, praised the authorities' willingness to assist but stressed the need for collaborative progress to avoid overlap. The board has been pushing the solution since seeing delays in the Statute.
