HBO Max has greenlit production on *The Chain*, an eight-episode thriller series marking the return of *Lost* co-creator Damon Lindelof to the platform.
The project stems from Lindelof's overall two-year deal with the streamer, which took effect last September. Produced by Media Res studio, it represents the first initiative under that agreement and adapts Adrian McKinty's bestselling novel of the same name. Casting details remain unannounced.
The story centers on Rachel Klein, who faces an agonizing choice after her daughter is kidnapped: pay a ransom by abducting another person's child, or watch her own daughter die. This forms part of a criminal chain orchestrated solely for financial gain.
Lindelof shared his enthusiasm in a statement: "From the moment I encountered McKinty's original, unhinged premise, I was blown away, surprised, and annoyed that I hadn't thought of it myself. I've always wanted to adapt a great thriller, and this one has all the dark elements that fire up my imagination."
Francesca Orsi, HBO's executive vice president of programming, praised the partnership. She described Lindelof as "one of the most singular and distinctive creators of our time" and said *The Chain* promises "to continue his legacy of immersing us in the depths of the human mind."
