Andorra la Vella's Comú d'Andorra la Vella has launched a public tender for sidewalk renovations across six parish areas, with a budget of €700,000 targeting over 2,500 square metres of damaged pavements. The tender, set for publication in Wednesday's BOPA, will address full pavement replacements in high-priority zones showing irregularities or defects.

Key sites include the sidewalks along Carrer Bisbe Iglesias and the initial stretch of Prat de la Creu starting from Plaça de la Rotonda—directly overlapping the upper Avinguda Meritxell pedestrian zone. Other areas are Carrer del Cedre in Santa Coloma (500 metres), Carrer de l'Aern plus sections of Tossalet and Vinyals in La Margineda, Carrers Ciutat de Valls and Xavier Mestre Plana, a specific stretch of Carrer Bonavista, Baixada del Molí, and Carrer de l'Alzinaret. Works will involve removing existing surfaces, repairing bases, and installing durable new pavements to enhance pedestrian safety and mobility.

Councillor for Public Services, Environment and Natural Heritage Jordi Cabanes stated the projects respond to resident feedback on problem spots, boosting public space quality and walking safety. The Comú plans to limit disruptions by preserving home access and providing alternative routes for locals and businesses.

A separate €65,000 tender will cover spot repairs elsewhere in the parish for quicker fixes on emerging issues.

This infrastructure push coincides with the expanded 'Carrers Vius' initiative on upper Avinguda Meritxell, running every Sunday from 17 May to 15 November and the third Saturday each month, between Plaça de la Rotonda and Carrer Bisbe Iglesias from 10am to 8pm. Cònsol Major Sergi González noted the added dates meet business requests from the pilot phase, aiming to centre streets on people, foster community and support local commerce. Extended decorative ceilings will cover the upper stretch alongside usual installations in the pedestrian area and Carrer Callaueta, with setup starting next week. Traffic reports confirm no major mobility issues, and feedback from residents, shops and visitors will continue guiding adjustments, including access to parking and emergency services.
