Key Points
- Group traveling without mandatory snow chains despite heavy snow.
- Vehicle immobilized on open Honduras pass in Cáceres.
- Officers assisted and transported them safely to Jerte town.
- Car later recovered; highlights winter driving risks.
Civil Guard officers rescued three people trapped by snow in a Jaguar vehicle at the Honduras pass in Cáceres province on Saturday afternoon.
The group—an adult man, an adult woman, and a minor—had been travelling without snow chains, which were mandatory due to the weather conditions. Although the pass remained open to traffic, heavy snow accumulation on the road left their car immobilised.
Officers responded to the scene and assisted the occupants, who could not free the vehicle themselves. They transported the three individuals safely to the nearby town of Jerte. The car was later recovered.
The incident underscores the risks of driving in mountainous areas without proper winter equipment, even on open routes. Local authorities have repeatedly emphasised the need for chains or equivalent gear during adverse weather in the region.
