Margarida Marticella Poised to Lead Andorra Lawyers' College as Dean
Treasurer Marticella backed by outgoing board for uncontested election on March 2, amid assembly debate on €2,000 monthly dean pay.
Key Points
- Marticella, current treasurer, set to become next dean with outgoing leadership support.
- Baixench, vice-dean Bellera, Balart, and Borrell not seeking re-election.
- No rival candidacies despite criticism of board's passivity on reforms.
- Assembly to vote on €2,000 monthly compensation for dean role.
Margarida Marticella, the current treasurer of the Col·legi d'Advocats de Andorra, appears best placed to become the institution's next dean. Members of the outgoing leadership team are preparing to back her candidacy ahead of elections at the ordinary assembly on 2 March, when current dean Sònia Baixench steps down.
Baixench, who has relied heavily on Marticella as her right-hand during her tenure, will not seek re-election, nor will vice-dean Miquel Bellera, or board members Montserrat Balart and Anton Borrell. That leaves four resignations from the current board. For now, Concepció Criado, Sílvia Estrada, Isaac Pérez, and Catalina Llufriu are expected to remain and support Marticella's bid, though the lineup will see significant changes overall.
No rival candidacies have emerged despite longstanding murmurs of discontent among some lawyers. Critics argue the current board has been too passive on internal organisation and in pressing demands with the Justice Ministry or the Consell Superior. However, this dissatisfaction does not appear widespread enough to spur an alternative slate, and the demands of collegial work deter many from stepping forward.
The 2 March assembly will also debate a proposal to pay the dean around €2,000 per month. Proponents say the role requires substantial time that limits private practice or firm work, warranting compensation for service to the profession.
