Opposition Leader Blames Naturland Park Woes on Current Council
Josep Majoral accuses Cònsol Cerni Cairat of immobilism and rejecting a €3M chairlift project, claiming his prior recovery plan left the park improved.
Key Points
- Majoral's administration ran 4-year recovery plan, improving Naturland despite challenges.
- Cairat's group rejected €3M bank-approved chairlift linking 1,600m-2,000m facilities.
- Cairat previously advocated closing park; now adds zip line but sustains monthly costs for 50 families.
- Criticism aired on Ràdio Nacional amid ongoing uncertainty over park's future.
Josep Majoral, the opposition leader in Sant Julià de Lòria's Comú, has blamed the current local majority under Cònsol Cerni Cairat for Naturland park's ongoing troubles.
In an interview on Ràdio Nacional's *Avui serà un bon dia* programme, the former cònsol said his administration had launched a recovery plan for the park, which was followed for four years. He claimed it left the site in much better condition than before, despite challenging circumstances. Majoral thanked outgoing director Xabier Ajona and his team for their efforts.
He accused Cairat's Desperta Laurèdia group of causing problems through "immobilism" and failing to continue the existing plan. Majoral specifically criticised the rejection of a €3 million chairlift project designed to connect Naturland's facilities at 1,600m and 2,000m altitudes. Banks had approved the scheme and were ready to provide funding, he added, insisting it was key to reviving the park.
Majoral further charged that Cairat has never believed in Naturland, recalling his past calls from opposition to close it down. Now in charge, Cairat has realised closure is not viable—given the 50 families relying on jobs there and the monthly costs of keeping it open—leading to initiatives like a new zip line, despite his reservations.
The criticism comes amid uncertainty over Naturland's future, with no further details from the Comú on next steps.
