Andorra Police Crackdown Nets Arrests for Theft, Drugs, Assaults, and DUI

Andorra police arrested several individuals over the weekend for thefts of luxury goods, drug possession, assaults on officers, and driving under the influence during an extensive crackdown.

Officers detained a 36-year-old non-resident man Saturday evening in Andorra la Vella on suspicion of multiple thefts from shops along the central commercial axis. A store security alert directed police to a suspect in a nearby outdoor car park, where they found stolen sunglasses on him and four more discarded under a parked vehicle. His car contained luxury clothing, accessories, a perfume, two lined bags typically used by thieves, rolls of aluminum foil, and pliers. The items, worth around €1,800, still had alarms and tags from four different central parish stores. He was reportedly coordinating with an unidentified accomplice who escaped when police arrived. The man appeared before a judge Sunday afternoon.

In drug cases, police stopped a 30-year-old man late Friday night in Sant Julià de Lòria and found two packets totaling 2.32 grams of cocaine. Initially cooperative, he became violent, disobeyed orders, resisted arrest, kicked an officer—resulting in injury—and repeatedly struck the patrol car's partition with his hands and feet. He faces charges for a public health offense and assaulting public authority.

Saturday afternoon at the Riu Runer border crossing, authorities detained a 36-year-old tourist entering Andorra with 0.49 grams of cocaine and 10 grams of marijuana.

Three drivers faced arrest for alcohol impairment. Friday night, a 52-year-old man drove off the right shoulder of the CG3 in Serrat into a ditch, causing property damage; his blood alcohol level was 1.53 grams per liter. Early Saturday amid snowy roads, a 30-year-old man unable to drive properly tested at 1.85 grams per liter. That evening on the CG2 in Canillo, a 24-year-old ascending the road lost control, hit two parked vehicles, and registered 1.87 grams per liter.

In Andorra la Vella, two men were arrested after disturbances at an Irish pub, where they had bothered patrons before arguing and fighting each other. As security ejected them, one punched the guard, splitting his lip. Police encountered strong resistance while handcuffing them and used an arm lock to subdue the puncher. En route to the station, he threatened officers, yelling insults such as "I'll kill you, you shitty cops" and "sons of bitches," while attempting kicks. The second man carried a prohibited 9.5 cm Deejo Tattoo knife—category 7, banned in public areas—and a packet of cocaine. Both showed extreme intoxication, later testing at 2.58 and 2.80 grams per liter of blood. They received three months of house arrest and €500 fines each.
