Key Points

  • Zauchensee super-G cancelled due to snow, winds, poor visibility; rescheduled to Andorra's Àliga slope on Feb 28.
  • Grandvalira now hosts downhill (Feb 27), super-G (Feb 28), and another super-G (Mar 1).
  • Andorran Cande Moreno 12th in Europa Cup downhill training; Jorgina Caminal 36th.
  • Íria Medina claims 3rd in Italian FIS giant slalom with 25 FIS points.

Bad weather forced the cancellation of the women's World Cup super-G in Zauchensee, Austria, on Sunday, with the International Ski Federation (FIS) rescheduling it for Andorra's Soldeu el Tarter venue on Saturday 28 February. The move adds a second super-G to the Grandvalira stop, alongside the downhill on Friday 27 February.

Heavy snow, strong winds and poor visibility thwarted the race after a challenging week at the Austrian resort. Only Thursday's downhill training occurred, using a backup start; Friday's session was scrapped entirely. Saturday's downhill went ahead but on a significantly shortened course, starting even lower than initially planned.

The relocated super-G will run on the Àliga slope. Teams arrive on Tuesday 24 February, followed by downhill training on Wednesday 25 and Thursday 26. Friday's downhill replaces what was previously a training day. The super-Gs then follow on Saturday 28 and Sunday 1 March.

Andorran skier Cande Moreno was set to compete in Zauchensee but instead raced in the Europa Cup at Pass Thurn this week alongside teammate Jorgina Caminal. In Tuesday's downhill training there—held after Monday's cancellation—Moreno placed 12th with a time of 1:37.64, 0.90 seconds off leader Fabiana Dorigo's pace, while Caminal was 36th in 1:38.85. The first race runs Wednesday, with Caminal also entered in Friday's second downhill; Moreno heads to the World Cup in Tarvisio.

Caminal recently debuted in the World Cup with 53rd place in the St. Moritz downhill, building on strong prior showings there.

In other Andorran results, Íria Medina took third in a second FIS giant slalom at Italy's Grand Prix, posting 2:10.00 for 25 FIS points that improve her current 30. Meanwhile, Bartumeu Gabriel and Xavier Cornella failed to finish the opening run of the Europa Cup slalom in Crans Montana, Switzerland, on a bumpy course that challenged high bib numbers.
