The 34th Borrufa Trophy, a longstanding alpine ski event for young competitors under 16, will bring together more than 250 skiers from around 30 countries in Andorra from Monday to Thursday.
Racing gets underway Monday with a U16 slalom at Portella del Mig and a U14 giant slalom at Les Canals, following an inauguration ceremony in Ordino. Categories include the revived super giant slalom, giant slalom, slalom, and National Team Event. For the first time, all skiers will be filmed, with U16 competitors able to use a new "hot seat" for reviewing runs.
Debuting nations include Iran, Bulgaria, and Azerbaijan, while Finland and Iceland return after several years' absence. Andorra fields three teams totalling 59 skiers. Carles Visa, manager of the Andorran Ski Federation (FAE), said the selection process gives all qualified young athletes a chance to compete internationally at home. "Our goal is to improve on previous editions' results. That will be the best sign that Andorra's ski base is working well."
The event remains a highlight on Andorra's winter sports calendar, emphasising novice and recreational racers.
