FC Andorra is close to completing two key signings ahead of the Lliga Hypermotion winter transfer window, which runs from 2 January to 2 February.
The club has reached agreements in principle for central defender Edgar González, 28, from Sallent, and winger/attacking midfielder Yeray Cabanzón, 22, from La Isla. Both moves are expected to be finalized shortly, as sporting and general director Jaume Nogués shapes the squad under head coach Carles Manso and majority shareholder Gerard Piqué. González, son of former Espanyol striker Lluís González, is set to end his loan at Hajduk Split—where he has played six league matches (391 minutes) and two cup ties (210 minutes) this season—after Almería coach Joan Francesc Ferrer ruled him out of plans despite a contract until June 2028. Formed at Espanyol and loaned to UE Cornellà, he joined Real Betis in 2018, featuring for the first team and becoming a regular under Manuel Pellegrini with 80 appearances before a €5 million switch to Almería. He is slated to replace loanee Antal Yaakobishvili, whose spell with Andorra and parent club Girona is due to be terminated early. Retained centre-backs include Gael Alonso, Bomba and Diego Alende; González can also play defensive midfield with strong reading of the game and anticipation.
Cabanzón, contracted to Racing Santander until June 2027, has seen limited action there—157 minutes in 10 league games under José Alberto López, plus two goals in three Copa del Rei appearances including against SD Logroñés. Loaned to Ponferradina last season, he was previously targeted by Andorra as a successor to Pablo Torre. The club plans another loan amid rival interest, with Josep Cerdà expected to leave.
Recent form under the new technical staff has been solid: a 1-1 draw at Sporting Gijón's El Molinón, 1-2 loss to Almería, 1-0 away win at Real Valladolid's José Zorrilla, 1-0 victory over Deportivo de La Coruña, offset by a 4-2 Copa del Rei defeat to Cultural Leonesa. Salary cap space has emerged following Ibai Gómez's departure and the exits of his assistants—Iñigo Larriqueta Larri, David Vinatea, Adolfo Madrid and Daniel Soriano—replaced internally.
Andorran Claudia Gurí, 30, a former professional basketball player and athlete with a degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics, joins as head of nutrition. She played last season for Melilla Ciudad del Deporte CD La Salle in LF Challenge, represented Spain's youth teams, and set national athletics records after a stint in track and field.
Separately, a mid-season review of Andorra's loanees highlights strong showings from attackers Luismi Redondo at FC Cartagena (17 games, 14 starts, 3 goals, 1,248 minutes in Primera RFEF Group II) and Juanda Fuentes at Nàstic de Tarragona (16 games, 10 starts, 1 goal, 729 minutes). Berto Rosas has 12 appearances and 2 goals for UD Logroñés in Segunda RFEF, while Bilal Achhiba notched 2 goals including an Olympic goal for Atlètic Lleida. Jan Encuentra has impressed at Unionistas de Salamanca with 12 games and 1 goal. Less positively, Iván Rodríguez has 425 minutes in 7 games at Villarreal B, Christos Almpanis managed 12 substitute-heavy appearances and 1 goal at Nàstic, and Javier Vicario remains sidelined by injury at Barakaldo.
