Key Points
- Works on the Sud Radio building at Port d’Envalira began in 2022 but are currently halted.
- Bomosa received a 40‑year concession in 2016; phase two is parked despite existing access road (€1.5m).
- A four‑year legal dispute with Saetde, rising costs and partner exits have delayed progress.
- Project leader David Astrié (appointed 2024) resigned in April; 2025 plans to restart works have not materialised.
Icònic, presented as a reference centre for high-altitude sports performance because of its location at 2,500 metres and its planned residential and medical services for professional, federated and amateur athletes, remains stalled. Adaptation works on the Sud Radio building at the Port d’Envalira began in 2022, but construction is currently halted.
The area already has the necessary services and an access road built at a cost of €1.5 million, yet the second phase of works is parked. The project dates back to 2015; in 2016, following a tender, a 40‑year administrative concession was awarded to Bomosa.
A legal dispute with Saetde, the operator of the Pas de la Casa–Grau Roig ski domain, delayed progress. Saetde argued the centre’s construction could conflict with ski operations in the same area, and the case ran for four years. That was not the only obstacle: the initial budget of nearly €20 million has risen, two partners withdrew, and David Astrié, appointed in 2024 to lead the project, resigned in April despite Saetde’s later involvement.
Organisers had called 2025 a “key year,” with plans to bring in new partners and resume construction to reinforce the centre’s role for elite athletes and high-performance enthusiasts. So far, those plans have not materialised.
Laura Mas, the cònsol major of Encamp, has publicly urged Icònic’s investors to push the works forward, noting that the local council has fulfilled its commitments and contributed what was agreed with the Government.
