Andorra Energy Demand Dips 0.5% in February 2026 Amid Falling Production, Rising Imports

Andorra's energy demand fell 0.5% in February 2026 to 56,952 MWh year-on-year, according to the statistics department, with imports up 0.7% at 48,982 MWh offsetting a 7.2% drop in domestic production.

Cumulative consumption for January and February rose 1.4% to 126,161 MWh, driven by 2.4% higher imports totaling 109,920 MWh and a 5% decline in local output to 16,243 MWh. Over the past 12 months, demand increased 2.4% to 585,960 MWh, with imports climbing 3.5% to 450,961 MWh and production easing 1.2% to 135,109 MWh.

Measured in tonnes of oil equivalent (TEP), February usage dropped more sharply by 4.8% to 17,769.1 TEP, mainly due to steep declines in mobility fuels: transport diesel fell 24% and petrol 15.7%. Household energy sources rose in response to winter needs, with domestic fuel oil up 20.4% and propane 8.8%. Year-to-date TEP consumption decreased 3.3% to 39,171.2 TEP, while the 12-month total grew marginally by 0.2% to 200,025.6 TEP.

FEDA customer electricity demand rose 0.9% in February to 36,038.7 MWh, supported by construction sector growth of 20.6%, financial services up 6.7%, and households increasing 4.7%. Ski resorts saw a 17% decrease despite peak winter season, extending a 12-month downturn of 10.8% possibly linked to weather or lower activity. January-February FEDA usage climbed 2.2% to 79,816.1 MWh, and the 12-month total advanced 2.2% to 372,520.6 MWh, propelled by construction (+11.7%) and industry (+11.3%). Public lighting and some services recorded small declines.

Seasonally adjusted figures show overall demand holding steady at 0% for the month, while FEDA customers exhibited a modest 0.4% downtrend in recent months, indicating a slowdown beyond seasonal influences. The data reflect balanced growth with rising import reliance and uneven performance across sectors.
