Andorra Inflation Hits 4.1% in March on Surging Fuel Prices
Higher transport costs, especially fuels and lubricants, propelled Andorra's inflation to 4.1% annually in March. Core rate fell slightly to 3.6%, while neighbours Spain and France reported lower figures.
Key Points
- Annual inflation rose to 4.1% from 3.1% in February, driven by transport costs up 5.7% yearly.
- Monthly prices increased 2.1%, with first-quarter cumulative inflation at 2.2%.
- Core inflation eased to 3.6%; petroleum products jumped from -7.4% to +13% year-on-year.
- Housing fuels rose 5.1%, clothing surged 20.26% monthly; Spain at 3.3%, France at 1.7%.
Andorra's annual inflation rate climbed to 4.1% in March, up one percentage point from February's 3.1%, driven primarily by higher fuel prices.
The Department of Statistics released the figures today, confirming earlier estimates. Prices rose 2.1% over the month, pushing first-quarter cumulative inflation to 2.2%. Core inflation, excluding fresh produce and energy, eased to 3.6%, down five tenths from the headline rate and slightly below February's level.
Transport costs led the increase, with an annual rise of 5.7%—up 6.6 points from the prior year—due mainly to fuels and lubricants. Monthly, the category jumped 6.36%. Petroleum products shifted sharply from -7.4% to +13% year-on-year.
Housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels followed at 5.1%, a five-tenth increase linked to liquid fuels, which rose this March after falling in 2025. Clothing and footwear surged 20.26% monthly as sales ended and new collections arrived. All categories saw gains except education, which was flat.
Statistics attributed the broader trend partly to Middle East tensions affecting transport prices, alongside seasonal clothing shifts.
Neighbouring countries' final data remain pending. Spain's advance estimate shows 3.3% inflation, up one point from February. France's provisional figure stands at 1.7%, an eight-tenth rise. Both trail Andorra's rate.
