Andorra Imports Rise 0.1% to €149.72M in May, Exports Up 3.8%

Andorra's May imports edged up 0.1% to €149.72 million amid gains in construction and transport materials offsetting declines in beverages, tobacco, and jewellery. Exports grew 3.8% to €14.55 million, propelled by a 320% surge in jewellery.

Imports into Andorra totalled €149.72 million in May, reflecting a modest 0.1% rise from the previous year, as reported by the statistics department.

Increases in construction products, up 33%, and transport materials, which climbed 16.5%, countered drops in other categories. Beverages and tobacco declined 25.6%, jewellery imports fell 35.5%, and clothing and footwear decreased 10.9%.

For the first five months of the year, cumulative imports reached €801.58 million, a 3.8% gain over the same period last year. Construction posted the strongest growth at 31.7%, followed by jewellery at 38.8%, miscellaneous goods at 19%, and transport at 8.1%. Notable declines included beverages and tobacco (-10.7%), energy (-7.7%), and electronics (-7.5%).

Over the rolling 12-month period, imports hit €2,026.66 million, up 8.1% from €1,874.61 million a year earlier. Excluding energy, the increase stood at 9.2%. Key risers were transport (10.1%), miscellaneous goods (20.9%), construction (26.4%), industrial products (9.3%), and jewellery (23%), while energy imports dropped 5.5%.

Exports in May came to €14.55 million, a 3.8% year-on-year advance fuelled by jewellery, which soared 320.2%. Industrial products fell 64.5%.

January-to-May exports totalled €82.86 million, up 8.2%, with jewellery leading at 130%, followed by transport (13.5%) and electronics (7.3%). Miscellaneous goods declined 42.8%.

The 12-month export total reached €203.45 million, a 9.6% increase. Jewellery rose 54.2%, electronics 13.5%, and transport 8.9%, offset by falls in miscellaneous goods (-19.2%) and clothing and footwear (-10.1%).
