Andorra Job Seekers Drop to 244 in May 2026 Amid Surge in Openings

Andorra's Employment Service recorded 244 active job seekers at the end of May 2026, a 5.8% decrease from April's 259 and 5.4% below the 258 from May 2025. Individuals seeking job improvements totalled 186, down 5.6% monthly from 197 but up 1.6% year-on-year. Employed users of the service reached 75, including two on medical leave over six months, reflecting a 1.4% monthly increase.

Job openings jumped to 1,826, up 29.1% from April's 1,414, though 6.5% lower than May 2025's 1,953. Over the past year, monthly averages were 239 job seekers (down 12.8%), 198 seeking upgrades (down 5.3%), and 1,656 openings (down 1.5%). Seasonally adjusted trends showed stable but positive growth for job seekers at +1.7%, a slight decline for upgrades at -1.0%, and marginal gains for openings at +0.1%.

Job seekers comprised 29.1% administrative employees, 18% service, restaurant, protection, and sales workers, and 16% unskilled labourers. Those seeking upgrades were primarily support technicians and professionals (28.5%), administrative staff (26.9%), and scientific technicians (11.8%). Openings focused on skilled craftworkers in industry and construction (33.7%), service and sales roles (22.5%), and unskilled positions (22%).

Among seekers, 80.7% had been unemployed less than six months, with 93.3% short-term unemployed. The 40-59 age group led at 40.6% of seekers and 43.5% of upgraders. Women accounted for 53.7% of seekers and 59.1% of upgraders. Andorrans made up 51.2% of seekers and Spaniards 21.3%; for upgrades, other nationalities were 33.9% and Spaniards 31.7%. Spaniards with over 19 years' residency were the largest group at 19.3% of seekers, followed by other nationalities with under five years at 14.3%. Nearly half of upgraders (48.9%) held temporary contracts.

Unemployment benefits supported 15 people, down 6.3% monthly but up 25% yearly from 12; 60% were aged 40-59, two-thirds women, 66.7% Andorran, and all long-term residents over 10 years.

The service enabled 18 hires, including eight through temporary work programmes. Additionally, 16 workers joined government, parapublic, and non-profit initiatives; 11 benefited from private-sector hiring support; and eight from youth and promotion schemes. Of total registrants, 66 found work independently. Over the past year, 20.1% received no intermediation, mostly those unemployed under three months, while 64.1% of those matched to offers had been registered over three months.
