- Supports iPhone 14+, Apple Watch Ultra 3 for 112 emergency calls without cellular/Wi-Fi
- Integrates with DPEIS; devices prompt for incident details to aid responders
- Available to residents and visitors, enhances safety in Andorra's mountains
- Director Jordi Nadal and Minister Ester Molné hail it as safety boost for upcoming CNE 112
Andorra Telecom has activated Apple's Emergency SOS via Satellite service throughout the country, enabling iPhone 14 and later models, along with Apple Watch Ultra 3, to reach the 112 emergency network in areas lacking cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
The service integrates with the Department of Fire Prevention, Extinction and Rescue (DPEIS). Upon activation, compatible devices display a short questionnaire to collect key incident details, aiding responders in their efforts.
Open to residents and visitors alike, the feature bolsters safety amid Andorra's rugged mountain landscapes, particularly for those engaging in outdoor activities. Andorra Telecom is also exploring ways to add comparable offerings from other manufacturers.
Andorra Telecom director general Jordi Nadal described the launch as a key boost to safety for residents, workers and visitors. He highlighted the partnership with emergency services to embed the technology within the national response framework.
Justice and Interior Minister Ester Molné praised the step as part of broader efforts to update emergency infrastructure. She pointed to its role in readying the forthcoming National Emergency Centre (CNE 112), especially for signal-poor zones.
