  • Owners note rising demand for sustainable stays amid Ordino's natural attractions.

Ordino parish council has awarded its Biosphere Reserve certification to Els Buners tourist apartments in La Cortinada, bringing the total number of certified businesses to 20.

The council presented the label to recognise the property's adherence to reserve principles, including high-quality, modern, sustainable and inclusive operations that preserve the parish's mountain identity. Opened three years ago, the apartments met certification requirements through features such as LED lighting, electric vehicle charging points, waste recycling, eco-friendly cleaning products and low-energy appliances.

Owners detailed these upgrades as key to securing the distinction. Certified businesses now cover tourism, agriculture, livestock and other fields, including a local bank branch.

Tourism councillor Jordi Serracanta highlighted how this range of participants broadens the reserve's reach. The certification also grants access to the council's revitalisation roundtable, a public-private collaboration to advance tourism and local development.

Elena Muñoz, the owner, welcomed the recognition, noting it aligns with growing client preferences for eco-focused stays amid the parish's natural appeal. She said guests prioritise sustainability, clean air and tranquillity over city alternatives.

The achievement reinforces Ordino's commitment to green tourism growth.
