Andorra CPI Hits 4.8% in August, Driven by Transport and Fuel Surge

Andorra's annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) climbed to 4.8% in August, up six tenths from July's 4.2%, according to data released Monday by the Department of Statistics.

The rise stemmed chiefly from higher annual variations in transport, clothing and footwear, and non-alcoholic beverages and food. Transport saw the sharpest increase, reaching 9.5% annually—up 3.1 points—with fuel and lubricant costs driving the surge. Clothing and footwear advanced to 7.1%, a 2.2-point gain, as discounts proved less generous than a year earlier. Non-alcoholic beverages and food edged up to 2.5%, rising five tenths, with fresh fruit prices providing the main lift.

On a monthly basis, prices rose 0.5% overall. Transport jumped 2.4% due to fuel and lubricant increases, while housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels gained 0.3% from liquid fuel costs. Non-alcoholic beverages and food also increased 0.3%, supported by rises in fish, legumes and vegetables, though fruit prices tempered the group. Clothing and footwear fell 1% as summer promotions ended.

Petroleum products posted a notable annual advance of 25.4%, up from 15.2% in July, alongside a 7.5% monthly rise.

Underlying inflation, stripping out energy and fresh food, eased to 3.7% from July's 3.8%. The overall index stood at 123.55 points, with year-to-date inflation through eight months at 2.9%.

Andorra's figure outpaced preliminary data from neighbors: Spain's advance August CPI at 4.3%—up seven tenths from July's 3.6% and awaiting Tuesday confirmation—and France's 2.4%, three tenths above July's rate and pending final figures.
