Andorra Work Permit Quota Half Committed After 200 Applications in First Week

Andorra's Immigration Service processed 200 general work permit applications in the opening week, consuming half the 900-permit quota alongside prior strategic sector allocations. Officials report strong demand with 650 slots left.

Key Points

  • 200 new applications received in first week, plus 250 pre-granted, total 450 commitments out of 900.
  • 650 slots remain available after deducting pre-grants.
  • Quota includes 702 residence/work permits and 198 cross-border authorizations, open until April 2027 or full.
  • Winter seasonal quota of ~5,000 expected soon; eligible sectors lose general quota access.

Andorra's Immigration Service has received 200 applications in the first week of the general work permit quota, committing half of the initial 900 permits when combined with 250 pre-granted to strategic sectors.

Government spokesperson and minister Guillem Casal provided the update during a press conference following Tuesday's Council of Ministers meeting. He confirmed the strong demand, noting that officials had observed "considerable demand" in discussions. The 200 new submissions are under processing and join the prior 250 advances, totaling 450 commitments—half the original allocation.

After deducting pre-grants, 650 slots remain available in this phase. The recent applications thus account for nearly a third of those effective places, though Casal stressed they do not yet equate to approved authorizations.

The general quota comprises 702 residence and work permits alongside 198 cross-border work authorizations. It stays open until 30 April 2027, or until slots fill.

Casal added that the winter seasonal quota, projected at around 5,000 authorizations, will open soon to complement the general allocation. Sectors eligible for seasonal permits will lose access to the general quota upon its launch, distinguishing permanent from temporary hiring needs. No timeline or approval details for the general quota have emerged.
