Andorra's real estate and construction sector is mourning the death of Catalan businessman Enric Reyna at age 85.
Reyna amassed his wealth through Amrey, the property developer active in the Principat since the early 1960s, where it built numerous apartments, houses, and chalets. Projects bear his mark in El Tarter, A Tower and Emprivat Luxury in Escaldes-Engordany, and the Els Refugis complex in Canillo. His son, also named Enric, has led the group's Andorran operations since 2005. The 2008 financial crisis prompted insolvency proceedings for Amrey in 2013, sparing only the Amrey Hotels division. In 2021, Reyna's children partnered with the Turón family to form Erma, which continues luxury developments in Andorra, Barcelona, and El Vendrell.
Reyna entered construction at 20 and founded the Barcelona and Province Association of Property Developers and Builders (APCE) in 1969, presiding over it for more than three decades. He led Fira de Barcelona from 1987 to 1991 and helped establish the Construmat trade fair. His Andorran ties extended to business events, including his appearance as APCE president at the inaugural Andorra Marketing Meeting in Andorra la Vella's congress centre in January 2008.
Reyna also briefly headed FC Barcelona. He joined the board in 2000 under Joan Gaspart, advanced to vice-president in December 2002, and took over as president in February 2003 following Gaspart's resignation. He held the role only until May 2003, when the full board stepped down after an extraordinary general assembly, handing control to a management committee.
