Andorra Approves €30,000 Subsidy for Catalan-Language Films at Cinemes Illa Carlemany

The Andorran government approved a €30,000 expenditure commitment on March 23, 2026, to subsidise tickets for films in original Catalan, dubbed or subtitled in Catalan at Cinemes Illa Carlemany. Spectators will pay €4 per ticket, with the Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry covering the difference from standard prices.

This initiative forms part of a 2023 agreement between the ministry and Gestora del Centre Illa Carlemany, SLU, aimed at promoting the official language through cultural and leisure offerings. The 2026 allocation represents a reduction from the €37,500 budgeted for 2025, which went entirely unspent.

In 2025, 21 such films premiered, attracting 5,517 viewers—a decline from 2024. This trend mirrors falling attendance for screenings in Catalan and non-Catalan languages. The titles included: *Wolfgang; Boris Skossyreff, l’estafador que va ser rei*, *Una pel·lícula de Minecraft*, *Mar i cel*, *Super Charlie*, *Com ensinistrar un drac*, *Paddington*, *Pare nostre*, *Super Wings*, *Avatar: foc i cendra*, *Elio*, *Bambi: una vida al bosc*, *Jurassic World*, *Bob Esponja*, *Rei de reis*, *Els barrufets*, *La terra negra*, *Olívia i el terratrèmol invisible*, *Salvatges*, *El col·legi dels animals fantàstics* and *Hanna i els nadals oblidats*.
