Key Points

  • Council of Ministers approves honour for violinist Gerard Claret Serra and cellist Lluís Claret Serra for cultural contributions.
  • Posthumous award to painter Francesc Galobardes Carbonell, who died in January 2024 at 93.
  • Galobardes, originally from Catalonia, gained Andorran nationality and promoted culture internationally.
  • Orde de Carlemany is Andorra's second-highest executive honour for notable merits.

Andorra's Council of Ministers has approved the awarding of the Orde de Carlemany to musicians Gerard Claret Serra and Lluís Claret Serra, as well as posthumously to painter Francesc Galobardes Carbonell.

The honour recognises the brothers' distinguished contributions to Andorran culture and its promotion abroad, alongside their extensive national and international careers in musical arts. Gerard Claret is a violinist, while Lluís Claret is a cellist. For Galobardes, who died in January 2024 at the age of 93, the distinction acknowledges his significant services to Andorran culture and its dissemination within the Principat and internationally, as well as his long trajectory in the pictorial arts. Originally from Catalonia's Garrotxa region, Galobardes had acquired Andorran nationality.

Government spokesperson Guillem Casal highlighted the award as recognition of the three figures' cultural efforts. The Orde de Carlemany ranks as the executive's second-highest honour and serves as a distinction for notable merits—whether in life or posthumously—achieved by individuals or entities, Andorran or foreign, in their fields or through relevant services to the Andorran state.
