Ordino Lights Up Historic Centre with 11,000 Candles at Nit de la Candela

Ordino's historic centre came alive with over 11,000 candles on Thursday evening for the seventh edition of the Nit de la Candela event, drawing hundreds to a illuminated trail of music, dance, and light displays across landmark sites.

The annual gathering, launched in 2019 to promote culture and sustainable tourism, began at 9:30pm and packed the parish core. Narrow streets brimmed with visitors, at times requiring them to jostle past the flames. A key addition this year featured hanging structures on buildings that lit up facades and public spaces, offering fresh ways to explore the urban heritage.

Performances unfolded at multiple venues. In Plaça Major, the DJ duo Duality delivered a high-energy live set with guitar, violin, and dual vocals, remixing hits for dancing crowds. Placeta del Pajó hosted Somnis de Llum, blending dance, juggling, and glowing effects for a sensory dreamscape. The gardens of Casa Rossell saw neo-soul and R&B from the Lucille duo, while Arenys-Plandolit gardens presented Liquid Dansa, a contemporary work playing with light and shadow. The night wrapped at Era de Casa Rossell with Andorran singer-songwriter Martha Roquett.

Reports varied on some acts: earlier accounts noted Wax&Boogie Trio, Richy Vuelcom, and David Amat at central spots, Vibrand Music at Era Rossell courtyard, Odara Trio at Casa d'Areny-Plandolit, Manos de Fuego at Casa Pairal garden, and Neus Mar with a dancer at Casa Rossell gardens.

Food trucks expanded for the occasion, alongside family activities like fluorescent face painting, rounding out an immersive evening that locals and expats called magical.
