Meritxell, la patrona Tickets Sell Out in Under 24 Hours in Andorra

All 500 tickets for the two performances of Meritxell, la patrona sold out in under 24 hours, with demand overwhelming sales shortly after they went live.

Organized by the Contradans association alongside all five Andorran dance groups and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the production is set for 12 September in the cloister of the Meritxell Sanctuary. Capacity is limited to 250 per session, at 7pm and 9pm. Reservations for the earlier show ran out Tuesday afternoon, right after the project's launch that day, while the later session's tickets vanished Wednesday morning. Bookings were handled via www.contradans.ad.

The show employs music and dance to trace the Virgin of Meritxell's enduring place in Andorran valley life and the values she embodies, grounded in precise historical accounts. Some 100 dancers from the Esbart Sant Romà, Esbart Valls del Nord, Esbart Dansaire d’Andorra la Vella, Esbart Laurèdia and Esbart Santa Anna groups take part, backed by 30 in organizational and technical roles.

Albert Gumí leads the music, featuring original works by Gumí, Lluís Cartes and Bernat Torra that blend traditional, classical, modern and experimental elements. Live acts include the Trio Daura—Ivan Caro on flabiol, gralla and hurdy-gurdy, Nina Planavila on accordion, and Robert Canela on flute—plus Elies Porté on violin and Mireia Planas on cello. Juanma Casero from Animal Teatre weaves the artistic narrative.

The government has slotted the event into celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Meritxell Sanctuary's construction. With a €50,000 budget, funding splits evenly between the executive and Andorra's seven parishes. The poster comes from emerging artist Helena Marsol.
