Meritxell, la patrona Tickets Sell Out in Under 24 Hours in Andorra
The cultural dance production, blending music and history, drew overwhelming demand with evening tickets gone Tuesday and late show Wednesday. Around 100 dancers and live musicians perform in the sanctuary cloister.

The event, organised by the Contradans association in collaboration with all five Andorran dance groups and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, will take place on 12 September in the cloister of the Meritxell Sanctuary. Each session holds 250 people: one at 7pm and the other at 9pm. Tickets for the evening show sold out on Tuesday afternoon shortly after going on sale, following the project's presentation that day. The 9pm session tickets followed suit on Wednesday morning.
The performance uses music and dance to explore the historical role of the Virgin of Meritxell in Andorran daily life across the valleys, along with the values she represents, drawing on accurate historical memory. Around 100 dancers from the Sant Romà, Valls del Nord, Dansaire d’Andorra la Vella, Laurèdia and Santa Anna groups will perform, supported by 30 people in organisational and technical roles.
Musically, Albert Gumí directs the production, with original compositions by Gumí, Lluís Cartes and Bernat Torra spanning traditional, classical, modern and experimental styles. Live performers include the Trio Daura—featuring Ivan Caro on flabiol, gralla and hurdy-gurdy, Nina Planavila on accordion, and Robert Canela on flute—alongside Elies Porté on violin and Mireia Planas on cello. Juanma Casero of Animal Teatre provides the artistic narrative thread.
The government has incorporated the show into events marking the 50th anniversary of the Meritxell Sanctuary's construction. Funded at €50,000, costs are split equally between the executive and Andorra's seven parishes. The poster was designed by young artist Helena Marsol.
