Canillo parish has launched a new season for its social gardens and senior gardens, expanding to 50 plots on land in Sella. This includes 30 social garden plots—an increase of 10 from last year—and 20 reserved for seniors.

Registrations open tomorrow, Monday April 13, and continue until April 30. Social garden plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis via online applications. Senior garden plots require an in-person ballot submitted at the town hall within the same period.

Mayor Jordi Alcobé called the projects "a commitment to sustainability and social cohesion," noting their role in strengthening community ties and integration with the local area. Welfare councillor Sílvia Mandicó highlighted the senior gardens as spaces for social gatherings, physical activity, and intergenerational knowledge sharing.

The senior gardens operate in collaboration with the Fundació Julià Reig, underscoring institutional support for elderly well-being. Both initiatives promote therapeutic benefits, such as stress reduction and emotional health, alongside environmental gains through home-grown produce.

Eligibility requires applicants to be adults who have resided in the parish for at least two years and to commit to responsible use of the plot throughout the season. Priority goes to those without their own land. The parish aims to create inclusive, collective spaces that enhance well-being, citizen empowerment, and quality of life through nature.
