Around 40 godparents from Canillo gathered with local officials on 2 February to mark Candlemas with a traditional crêpe breakfast, where they reviewed the 2025 activities calendar for elderly residents.
The event, held as part of longstanding parish customs, included the Comú de Canillo's major and minor consuls, Jordi Alcobé and Marc Casal, alongside welfare councillor Sílvia Mandicó. The group discussed a programme jointly agreed between the local council and the parish's elderly association.
Minor Consul Marc Casal described the occasion as "a day in Canillo to meet with godparents and godmothers, share traditional crêpes, and gather their impressions and suggestions."
Highlights of the calendar include yoga workshops, extended strength and maintenance gymnastics sessions, memory and handicraft classes, talks on nutrition and health, and the Horts de la Gent Gran scheme, offering allotments for cultivation from May.
Recurring events will feature the usual Aina lunches for Easter and Christmas, plus the Castanyada gathering. Trips are planned to Huelva, the Cardona salt mines, and the Vilafranca del Penedès wine museum, among others.
Councillor Mandicó called it "a special day marked on the elderly calendar." In addition to the association's assembly and activity discussions—originally slated for 2026 but presented this year—the event hosted a practical talk by the Red Cross on teleassistance options.
