Creper Owner Branded Catalanophobic for Dismissing Language as Dialect

**Andorra la Vella** – Plataforma per la Llengua has labelled Ahmed Agharbi ElBachiri, owner of Creper de la Rotonda, as catalanophobic over comments dismissing Catalan as a dialect during an interview with local YouTuber Wall Street Wolverine.

The group released a video compiling the remarks alongside archival footage from 2017, when ElBachiri promoted his then-new business, Two Brothers, in Catalan. That project received a public grant from the Comú d’Andorra la Vella under a young entrepreneurs programme funded by taxpayer money. In the department of youth video, he described the venture and credited the subsidy for enabling its launch in Andorra la Vella.

Plataforma per la Llengua highlighted the contradiction: ElBachiri used the country’s only official language and public funds to build and integrate his business, yet now portrays Catalan as lesser. The organisation described the statements as evidence of hostility toward the language and its speakers, rejecting any suggestion they were humorous or a marketing tactic.

“This is not humour or a marketing strategy, but hatred toward a minority language,” the group said in a statement with the video. It argued the case underscores the importance of safeguarding Catalan, especially among those who have gained from policies promoting entrepreneurship and social cohesion.

The video also referenced ElBachiri’s current stance that he would not speak Catalan unless forced. He has not issued a public response to the accusations.
