Encamp allocates nearly €110,000 for Carnival celebrations

Encamp will allocate nearly €110,000 to Carnival celebrations this year, with events in the main town from Saturday 14 February until Ash Wednesday on 18 February, and festivities in Pas de la Casa on the weekend of 21–22 February.

The local council has commissioned the various activities and the necessary technical services, including sound and lighting. The budget does not cover traditional performances such as the ball de l’Ossa, the smugglers’ trial or the operation of the King, which are organised directly by the Festes Commission.

Programmes in Encamp will include children’s parties, concerts by cover bands, DJ sessions, dances for godparents, and street musical animations that will accompany processions such as the ball de l’Ossa. A communal sardine meal is planned for Ash Wednesday. The council highlights the operation of Carnestoltes on the night of Tuesday 17 February, for which additional technical resources are planned.

In Pas de la Casa, the weekend programme foresees a batucada following the hanging of Carnestoltes, children’s shows, a Saturday dinner and a cover-band performance; Sunday will feature another batucada, children’s games and a closing fire show followed by a sardine meal.

The total allocation is about €110,000: €58,000 for Encamp events, €18,000 for Pas de la Casa, €14,000 for decoration and €15,000 for sound and lighting.
