The Ordino town council handed a charitable cheque for €538.84 to UNICEF Andorra, funds raised during the 33rd Mostra Gastronòmica d’Ordino. The contribution came from 1% of ticket sales, sales at the Saló Gourmet, and the entirety of proceeds from the Gastrolab.
The cheque was presented by Ordino’s mayor, Maria del Mar Coma, and received by Damaris Castellanos, executive director of UNICEF Andorra. Toni Corominas, representing Menja’t, one of the event’s co‑organisers, was also present.
Coma said the council wanted to share the success of the Mostra with an organisation of UNICEF’s standing, calling the donation a symbolic way to give back to the community and stressing support for initiatives linked to food and people’s welfare. She also highlighted the ongoing need for NGOs, even in advanced societies.
UNICEF Andorra thanked the town council and everyone involved in the Mostra. The organisation said the funds will be allocated to emergency food projects through UNICEF’s flexible resource mechanism, which allows International UNICEF to direct resources where and when needs are most urgent to ensure rapid, effective responses affecting children worldwide.
The 33rd Mostra Gastronòmica d’Ordino took place on the 8th and 9th, with wine as the main focus and an aim to promote the region’s viticultural culture and its connection to local gastronomy.
