The Ossa d’Ordino will be staged on Sunday 7 December at 12:00 noon in Plaça del Prat de Call d’Ordino. The street-theatre performance is organised by the Associació de Cultura Popular d’Ordino and involves over fifty participants, including performers, musicians and organisers.
The piece is a popular‑culture satire of power relations in traditional rural society and a parody of local current affairs, delivered through mock dialogues, songs and jokes. Its plot centers on a bear that confronts a group of dallaires (harvest labourers) reluctant to work the land of the cavaller (landowner). The action brings in other figures: senyorets de ciutat (urban gentry), paquetaires (carriers of contraband bundles) and a minyona (maid) who brings food to the dallaires.
After a series of complications the bear is hunted and killed and later reborn; the performance concludes with a collective dance. The show is presented in two parts: the first, “El despertar de l’Osseta,” is performed by children using dialogues they have written themselves; the second is the traditional adult enactment known as “L’última Ossa d’Ordino.”
To help attendees cope with winter weather, the association will distribute hot broth during the event.
The Ossa d’Ordino is one of the five Bears of the Pyrenees festivals. The group of festivals was inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2022. The Ossa d’Ordino is also listed in Andorra’s Cultural Heritage Inventory as an intangible asset and has been declared by the government a festival of cultural interest.
