Six Storks Perch in Andorran Village of Auvinyà for First Time

Six storks were observed in the Lauredià parish village of Auvinyà on Thursday morning, the first time the birds have been recorded perching there and sparking excitement among residents.

Local witnesses photographed the group of six on rooftops and elevated structures, including the stone chimneys of the village's distinctive buildings. One villager noted capturing images of the exact number and suggested they might have been assessing spots for nests. "The chimneys are large and made of stone, so we think they were looking for spaces to build nests," the resident explained, adding that no firm nesting efforts had been seen.

Residents stressed that storks have never before stopped in Auvinyà, though the species sometimes flies over Andorra during seasonal migrations. Such landings are rare nationwide, with the birds usually opting for calm, high locations for short breaks before moving on.

The event drew attention across the parish, as neighbours watched to see if any storks would remain to nest rather than continue their journey. Ornithologists link the sighting to typical spring migration behaviour. No updates have emerged on whether the birds stayed beyond Thursday.
