Andorra Sostenible Launches Environment Week with Record Green Schools Forum

Andorra Sostenible launched Environment Week on June 4 with a record turnout at the 16th Green Schools Forum, drawing nearly 300 pupils from 28 schools as part of efforts to promote conservation, biodiversity and sustainable practices through June 11.

The opening day at Prat del Roure in Escaldes-Engordany focused on nursery and primary pupils, who set up interactive stands to share their year's projects on recycling, biodiversity and sustainability. Organisers highlighted the event's role in fostering peer exchange, with features including a group breakfast, the new "Forum Passport" to visit other displays, and awards for Green Schools 2025-2026 along with green playground recognitions. The forum continued on June 5 at Andorran Secondary School in Santa Coloma, bringing together secondary, baccalaureate and vocational students for project presentations.

The Green Schools programme involves all 33 educational centres and more than 11,000 pupils across the country, emphasising students' roles in driving change. This year's advances feature pedagogical trails like the Solà stream, Prats-Meritxell path and Santa Bàrbara route for outdoor activities; "Green and Healthy Courtyards" playground enhancements; teacher training in biodiversity and circular economy; a digital portal for environmental education resources and school collaboration; additional selective waste bins; a materials exchange app for textbooks, bags and supplies; and promotion of a literary contest in the UNESCO-listed Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley.

Further activities encompass guided hikes on the Comapedrosa interpretive trail and Solà stream, plus intergenerational workshops on Andorra's landscape evolution, waste management and recycling. The week ends on June 11 at 6pm with a screening of the documentary *Andorra al Natural* at Bagaleu hall in Hive Five, followed by a public discussion featuring Banders Corps representatives and the Ministry of Environment's Wildlife Unit on biodiversity conservation and wildlife management.

Running alongside from June 9 to 15, European Sustainable Energy Week—led by the State Secretariat for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility and FEDA under the theme "For clean, safe and competitive energy"—offers free events with required registration at setmanaenergiaandorra.com. These include a June 9 tour of the Gonarda transformer station; June 10 business talks on climate practices, a public roundtable on global conflicts' energy impacts and a presentation by consultant Alfons Puga; a June 11 seniors' visit to Ctrasa waste treatment centre; a June 13 tour of Engolasters hydroelectric plant; and a June 15 workshop on climate risks to energy supplies.
