Construction of Andorra's new wildlife recovery centre in Canillo is advancing on schedule, with contractors on track to complete the facility before the end of 2026.
Environment, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Guillem Casal provided the latest update following visits to the site near Racons. He said work is progressing at a good pace, with teams currently focusing on walls, roofing, exterior stone elements and interior finishes. The project also incorporates enclosures and aviaries for mammals and birds.
The government intends to transfer operations from the existing centre in Santa Coloma once the new infrastructure is ready, moving over equipment, materials and any animals in treatment. Casal noted that the Santa Coloma facility operates well below capacity, managing a limited number of animals that can increase seasonally with injured specimens. It frequently acts as a transfer point, referring severe cases to external specialist centres such as Vallcalent in Lleida.
Casal confirmed deadlines are being met, allowing the planned relocation to proceed as initially scheduled. The upgraded centre will enhance Andorra's capacity for wildlife rehabilitation.
