Andorra's 2026 Summer Shatters Heat Records, Hottest Since 1950

Andorra logged its hottest meteorological summer on record in 2026, beating 2023 by 0.5°C with extreme anomalies, unprecedented heatwaves, and intense August storms.

Andorra's 2026 meteorological summer—June, July, and August—set a new record as the hottest since records began in 1950, surpassing 2023's mark by 0.5°C, according to the latest climate bulletin from Acció Climàtica.

The average temperature at the FEDA hydroelectric plant stood at 21.8°C, with a positive anomaly of 3.4°C—the first time exceeding 3°C. Stations recorded the highest number of days above 30°C and the most extreme temperature days during heatwaves. Five heatwaves occurred over the summer, breaking the prior record of four set in both 2022 and 2023.

July ranked as the warmest month on record, followed by June in second place and August third. The highest temperature reached 36.8°C on 7 July at Borda Vidal (873m), while the lowest was -1.7°C on 2 June at Solana (2,470m).

Precipitation averaged 222.6mm over 32 rainy days at FEDA, with a station-wide mean of 184.7mm. June and July stayed dry, but August turned very wet due to stormy episodes. Borda Vidal saw the most rain at 231.8mm, and Perafita the least at 137.8mm. The heaviest downpour struck on 6 August, with 48.7mm at Borda Vidal—including 26.5mm in 30 minutes—especially in the far south.

Few frosts occurred, concentrated in the first 11 days of June, alongside no snowfalls. Winds featured two notable events: one on 2 July, which hastened vegetation drying and sparked lightning-induced forest fires, and another from 24 to 27 August at high elevations.
