Abundant rain and mountain snow forecast for the Pyrenees
Meteo Pirineus warns of heavy rain Monday–Tuesday, concentrated on southern mountain slopes, with snow starting near 2,000m and lowering to about.
Key Points
- Abundant rain expected Monday–Tuesday, especially on southern slopes and mountain areas.
- Snow line around 2,000m Monday morning, dropping to about 1,700m later in the day.
- Significant snow accumulations likely in high mountains; mid/low elevations mainly rain.
- Brief midweek break; a colder front may bring further high-elevation snow at the weekend.
Meteo Pirineus has published its forecast for the coming week, warning that after several weeks of scarce precipitation an episode of abundant rain is expected between Monday and Tuesday, especially over mountain areas on the southern slope. Snow is forecast to begin around 2,000 metres and to drop to about 1,700 metres during the day.
For the next two days the agency says the snow line will start relatively high, near 2,000 m on Monday morning, then progressively lower to around 1,700 m. This will allow notable snow accumulations in the high mountains, while mid and low elevations will see predominantly rain. It is not expected to be a widespread, heavy snowfall at all levels, but the event should help recharge snow reserves at higher altitudes.
Meteo Pirineus adds that there will be a brief respite midweek, but a second, colder front may arrive at the weekend and bring more significant snow, particularly at higher elevations.
