Key Points

  • Rainfall tripled long-term average: 98mm at Feda, 130mm at peaks, behind only 1971 and 1978.
  • Average temperature 6.5°C (+2.4°C anomaly); highs to 20.5°C, lows to -10.6°C.
  • Early storms (Leonardo, Marta, etc.) boosted snow cover above 90th percentile initially.
  • Later high pressure caused clear skies, thermal inversions; snow ended above 70th percentile.

February 2026 ranked as Andorra's third wettest February since records began in 1950, with rainfall more than triple the long-term average, according to the monthly climate bulletin from Acció Climàtica released on Thursday.

The period also stood out for its warmth, posting an average temperature of 6.5°C—2.4°C above normal. Over half the days recorded temperatures at least 3°C higher than average, including a maximum anomaly of 6.3°C on 23 February. The highest temperature reached 20.5°C at Borda Vidal on 26 February, while the coldest dropped to -10.6°C at Tosa dels Espiolets in Soldeu (2,455m) on 15 February. Frost occurred on three days.

The first half of the month prolonged the series of storms battering the Principality since late December, driven by low-pressure systems such as Leonardo (2 February), Marta (5 February), Nils (10 February), Oriana (11 February), and Pedro (17 February). From mid-month onward, high-pressure systems brought clear skies and morning thermal inversions, especially noticeable from 22 to 26 February.

Precipitation measured 98mm at the Feda power station and around 130mm per square metre at one station, trailing only 1971 (148.3mm) and 1978 (107.7mm). The peak total hit 127.2mm at Bony de les Neres, with the minimum at 96mm in Borda Vidal.

Snow cover started the month above the 90th percentile, bolstered by early storms, but rising temperatures and dry conditions later reduced it—though it remained above the 70th percentile by the end. In the past decade, only February 2018 qualified as cold; all others were warm or very warm.

The complete bulletin, including detailed indicators, is available on the Acció Climàtica and Meteo Andorra websites, alongside the monthly water resources report.
