Andorra Issues Yellow Thunderstorm Alert for Afternoon; Catalonia Activates Flood Plan

Andorra's meteorological service has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms across the country this afternoon, effective from noon until 9pm. The storms could bring intense electrical activity and affect all areas, with potential for locally heavy downpours and sudden rain episodes.

Winds will come from the southwest today, with minimum temperatures reaching 7°C in Andorra la Vella and -1°C at Pas de la Casa. Maximums are forecast at 18°C in Andorra la Vella and 4°C at Pas de la Casa. Light rain may persist in the north beyond the alert period.

Over the weekend, an Atlantic front will introduce cooler conditions and widespread cloud cover, particularly in the north. Expected minimums range from 4-5°C, with maximums of 12-13°C.

In neighbouring Catalonia, the Generalitat's Civil Protection has activated the emergency flood plan (INUNCAT) in alert phase due to forecasts of intense rain. From 2pm to 8pm today, rainfall could exceed 20 litres per square metre in 30 minutes across much of the coast, pre-littoral, Plana de Vic, eastern Pyrenees, Pre-Pyrenees, and central Catalonia. Higher risks are anticipated in Anoia, Bages, Baix Llobregat, Moianès, and both Valles areas. Showers there may include storms, hail, large hailstones, and strong wind gusts.
