Andorra Issues Yellow Alert for Intense Storms and Heavy Showers This Afternoon

Andorra's weather service has issued a yellow alert for intense storms and heavy showers across the country this afternoon, from 3pm to 9pm.

The alert follows a sunny morning that will give way to rapid development of convective clouds from midday. These are expected to bring locally heavy downpours, occasional thunderstorms with electrical activity, and sudden wind gusts, particularly in mountain areas. The most active episodes are likely during the first half of the afternoon, with a higher probability and intensity in the northeast quadrant.

Saturday began with clear skies, but clouds built up in the afternoon, leading to scattered light showers by evening. Conditions are deteriorating further today, with instability increasing compared to yesterday. High humidity and limited snowmelt marked the morning, alongside high-altitude clouds.

Winds will remain light from the west, while temperatures stay warm for the season. Minimums are forecast at 8°C in Andorra la Vella, 3°C at 1,500 metres, and 3°C at Pas de la Casa. Maximums could reach 21°C in the capital, 16°C at 1,500 metres, and 7°C at Pas de la Casa. The zero-degree isotherm will sit around 3,200 metres at midday, rising to 3,300 metres overnight.

Authorities urge caution for road travel and outdoor activities, especially in mountains where conditions can shift quickly.
