Ordino will mark International Mountain Day on 11 December with a lecture by alpinist Mikel Zabalza. The day, proclaimed by the UN General Assembly, aims to raise awareness of the environmental, cultural and social value of mountain areas. The parish government has scheduled the talk, titled "Al fil de l’impossible," at the Andorra Congress Centre Ordino (ACCO) at 21:00.
Zabalza, one of Spain’s best-known mountaineers, will review his career and key achievements from 41 expeditions worldwide, ranging from the north face of G4 (Gasherbrum IV) to a south‑to‑north traverse of Greenland completed in 34 days. He will also recount climbs on Everest and in the Indian Himalaya and expeditions to Antarctica carried out for the TV programme Al filo de lo imposible, where he summited peaks such as Kintanna and Stetind. He served as president of Spain’s National Mountaineering Team for thirteen years.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Andorran National Commission for UNESCO, Zabalza will visit schools in the network of UNESCO‑associated schools to talk about effort, overcoming challenges, respect for the environment and fostering a passion for the mountains.
