Key Points

  • Comú d’Ordino launches €900K water network renewal between Ordino village and Sornàs, starting May 18.
  • Project replaces aging pipelines with dual lines: one for reservoir supply, one for potable water.
  • Initial stretch from church roundabout to Sornàs causes minor traffic disruptions and parking loss.
  • Part of €4.8M modernisation plan to 2030 addressing leaks from 1980s infrastructure.

The Comú d’Ordino begins a new phase of drinking water network renewal and duplication between Ordino village and Sornàs on Monday, 18 May, with an investment of more than €900,000. This work forms part of the parish's hydraulic infrastructure modernisation plan running to 2030.

Crews will replace the current pipeline with two distinct lines: one to channel water from mountain sources straight to the Coma de Suquer reservoir, and the second to deliver potable water to properties along the Ordino-Sornàs road. Initial efforts target the stretch from the roundabout in front of the church to the Sornàs roundabout. Motorists should expect minor disruptions, including the temporary loss of five green-zone parking spots and one-way traffic managed by signals.

To limit interference with peak tourist seasons and key events like the Trail 100 Andorra by UTMB and Nit de la Candela, the Comú has delayed work on the section between the Ordino entrance roundabout and the church roundabout.

The project builds on a broader renewal effort launched in 2025, backed by an annual budget of about €800,000 and a total commitment of nearly €4.8 million by 2030. Much of the existing network, built mainly in the 1980s, has suffered cracks, ruptures, and leaks due to age and urban expansion. The first phase—covering Coll d’Ordino to the village entrance roundabout—wrapped up this year. Future phases will extend improvements toward Llorts, a key intake point for water from Sorteny, Rialb, Besalí, and Angonella.
