Multiple Rockfalls Hit Andorra Amid Persistent Rain

Persistent rainfall has triggered multiple rockfalls across Andorra, including new incidents in Escaldes-Engolasters and along the Ensucaranes path, though emergency teams have contained risks without injuries or major disruptions.

Days of intermittent precipitation have saturated slopes in mountainous regions, dislodging stones at sites such as Pas de la Casa, Sant Julià de Lòria, and Escaldes-Engolasters. Officials are monitoring conditions and carrying out cleanups to avert larger slides.

The largest response followed a pre-midnight rockfall on the CG-6 road near Borda de l’Arena in Sant Julià parish, where four or five small stones hit the carriageway. Traffic police, patrol officers, and firefighters cleared the debris, restored access, and placed cones for caution. COEX specialists inspected the slope this morning to assess further needs.

Tuesday afternoon saw a minor cleanup near Pas de la Casa with no complications. This morning brought two additional events in Escaldes: a sizable rock fell short of the Engolasters road before the Solana junction, spilling small stones onto the pavement but causing no further impact. Local traffic workers planned to remove it and sweep the area, calling on COEX if required. Separately, rocks tumbled down the mountainside onto the Ensucaranes path, which remains open while specialists handle the clearance.

No injuries have occurred, and authorities urge caution in wet weather as vigilance continues at prone locations.
