Andorra's Health Minister Confirms Medical Procedure Review Nears Completion

Andorra's Health Minister Helena Mas has confirmed that the review of medical and surgical procedure classifications and tariffs has entered its final phase, with only two technical meetings left before completion.

The process, initially slated for finalisation this May, has progressed through months of intensive consultations involving specialist groups such as urologists, surgeons and obstetricians. The Health Ministry has now conducted more than 16 technical meetings in this second work phase, overcoming scheduling challenges to align all parties. "It has taken some effort to agree on the calendar," Mas noted, attributing delays to the complexity of coordinating with healthcare professionals.

Mas indicated that the remaining meetings will wrap up this stage, followed by a session in two weeks—or next week at the latest—with the advisory company responsible for evaluation and criteria definition. This step will help implement the technical decisions already reached.

Once complete, the updated nomenclature and tariff system will better reflect current healthcare realities, with input from sector professionals. Changes will notably affect procedure descriptions; for instance, a single ultrasound will now break down into up to 12 distinct sub-procedures, each with specific considerations and costs. The ministry aims to roll out these consensus-based updates soon.
