Body of 64-Year-Old Man Found in Andorra Apartment a Month After Natural Death

Emergency services in Andorra la Vella discovered the body of a 64-year-old man in his apartment on Carrer Bonaventura Riberaygua Wednesday evening, roughly a month after his death from natural causes. Neighbours in the Prada Ramon building alerted authorities around 6:45pm after not seeing him for several weeks, prompting a coordinated response that ruled out foul play.

The man, who lived alone, had worked for decades as a security guard but took sick leave about two months ago for personal reasons. Locals at the nearby Bar Restaurant Las Vegas remembered him as friendly, someone who enjoyed listening to music. He had faced health issues stemming from a personal crisis years earlier that upended his life. Police, firefighters, and Servei d'Urgències Mèdiques (SUM) personnel attended the scene, with firefighters forcing entry using specialized tools. Responders, wearing masks due to conditions inside, confirmed the death on site. Initial checks found no signs of violence or criminal activity.

The operation involved two police patrols, a SUM ambulance, a fire truck, three traffic agents from Andorra la Vella council, and two police motorcyclists managing crowds on Carrer Bonaventura Riberaygua and nearby Callaueta. Judicial and forensic officials also attended. Funeral services removed the body shortly before midnight for transfer to the tanatori nacional, where an autopsy will pinpoint the exact time of death. A police patrol stayed until all procedures ended.

The incident drew onlookers amid evening shoppers and workers, though teams maintained discretion. No investigation will follow, as authorities classified it a natural death. It highlights solitude risks for Andorra's nearly 3,900 residents over 65 living alone, per Statistics Department data. Similar cases occurred in March: a 50-year-old man at Aconcagua aparthotel in Andorra la Vella and a middle-aged woman at El Roser guesthouse in Escaldes-Engordany. The Social Affairs ministry has launched the Radars project, enabling merchants to report absent regular customers.
