The Andorran Department of Linguistic Policy, part of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, has formalised a collaboration agreement with the TERMCAT terminology consortium to produce and release a reference vocabulary for the most common medical specialities.
The resource will feature around 480 Catalan terms, grouped thematically into 23 specialities plus a section on general terms. It will also provide Spanish and French equivalents to support its use among health professionals and the public in Andorra's multilingual environment. Under the agreement, TERMCAT will handle development, editing in print format, and delivery of 400 copies to the ministry.
The Department of Linguistic Policy will oversee content review and coordinate distribution across the country. Efforts to share the vocabulary with healthcare workers will tie into a forthcoming linguistic policy drive that emphasises Catalan in the health sector, viewed as a government priority.
This project builds on existing terminology partnerships between the ministry and TERMCAT, reflecting their shared commitment to establishing Catalan as a working language in all fields of knowledge. The ministry has allocated €7,000 for its implementation.
