Social Democrats Request Data on Andorran Patient Referrals Abroad

The Social Democratic parliamentary group has submitted a formal request for comprehensive data on patient referrals from Andorra to overseas medical facilities for specialized treatments, along with details on support mechanisms for affected individuals and their families.

General Council member Laia Moliné led the initiative, which targets referrals during 2023, 2024, and 2025. It seeks the overall number of patients sent abroad, broken down by medical specialty, receiving hospital, and destination country. Particular emphasis falls on oncology patients, including the number treated externally, radiotherapy sessions conducted outside Andorra, and expenses covered by the CASS health service or the government.

Beyond clinical aspects, the request examines the broader effects on patients and relatives. It calls for information on partnerships with foundations, social entities, hotels, or other providers offering lodging during treatment periods. Authorities must disclose how many people have received such aid, instances where families were denied access due to capacity limits, and tools used to identify economic or social vulnerabilities linked to prolonged medical travel.

The scope also covers public funding for lodging, travel, daily expenses, and family support, including total spending over the three years in question.

The Social Democrats argue that this data is essential to assess whether current provisions meet patient requirements and to propose enhancements ensuring effective assistance for those requiring care beyond Andorra's borders.
