Incidence of respiratory infections in Andorra has continued to decline, reaching 139.83 cases per 100,000 inhabitants for the week of 23 February to 1 March, down from 146.88 the previous week.
Health authorities reported a particularly sharp drop in influenza cases, which fell to 8.03 per 100,000 inhabitants—nearly halving from 13.77 recorded earlier. The 15-24 age group remains the most affected by flu.
Children under five continue to bear the brunt of overall respiratory illnesses, though positive samples show a shift in viral patterns. Of tests conducted last week, 9.38% came back positive. Nearly half of those—44.44%—were attributed to respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which health officials say is keeping respiratory disease rates relatively elevated.
Other viruses detected included adenovirus and metapneumovirus at 20% of positives, with rhinovirus or enterovirus making up 10%.
Data from the Health department indicate the respiratory virus season is winding down gradually, even as RSV persists at higher levels.
