Andorran Red Cross Blood Drive Exceeds Target with 403 Donations

The Andorran Red Cross's opening blood donation campaign of 2024, held with the Andorran School from January 21 to 23 at the La Llacuna Cultural Centre, attracted 437 participants and secured 403 effective donations alongside 33 pledges.

The total exceeded the target of 350 donations, reinforcing the event's status as a major annual fixture while adding 68 new donors—16% of participants—to the national register. Joan Saurí, the Red Cross secretary general, called the outcome "stratospheric" and unexpected, attributing the success to the venue's central location, which improved access and boosted turnout.

Attendance balanced closely by gender, with 209 women and 228 men. The 45-54 age group led participation, followed by 55-64 and 35-44, showing loyalty from regular donors and rising engagement from younger people.

Blood types collected included prevalent O+ (151 donations) and A+ (139), plus vital negative groups: O- (40), A- (34), and B- (4). Additional hauls covered B+ (37), AB+ (7), and AB- (3).

The Red Cross thanked participants, donors, Andorran School teachers and students, partner organizations and businesses, volunteers, and logistics supporters. It promoted the next campaign on March 23 at Pavelló Toni Martí with Bàsquet Club Andorra, calling for ongoing public support to sustain life-saving supplies.
