A young resident of the CREI residential education centre on Carrer Gil Torres in Andorra la Vella was admitted to the mental health unit at the hospital early this morning for evaluation and treatment after police searched for him through much of the night.
The incident began shortly after 8pm when staff at the centre noticed the youth had not returned as required. Given his history of suicidal ideation or attempts, they followed protocol for high-risk absences and alerted police.
Officers launched an immediate search, focusing on public spaces with open WiFi access among other locations. The youth was located around 2am, appearing in good health with no unusual behaviour noted at the time.
Protocol for concerning disappearances from such facilities mandated his admission to mental health services for checks, monitoring, and precautions against potential incidents. He will return to the CREI once cleared.
